I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I’ve had to accept that two books a month is going to be pretty normal for me as I’ve struggled to hit that 9 book high I had in February 2018. #dreams

For the Love of Books: October 2019

October was a month where I was reading in lots of spurts, trying to read before bed. I didn’t get to do it every night, but I definitely made the effort to pick up my book, even just to read ten pages, before bed.

I read two books in October: She Said about the journalists who broke the Harvey Weinstein story and Little Fires Everywhere which has been on my list for foreverrrrrr. And truth be told, I didn’t even finish Little Fires Everywhere until Saturday when I was covering a shift at work.

Either way, I read most of it in October.

She Said was a great book that covered the story leading up to the Harvey Weinstein story from the two reporters who broke it. It reads like a novel as they talk about themselves in the third person, so there’s a real narrative to this book.

For anyone who wants to get behind the scenes on one of the biggest culture changes in our generation – this is definitely a book to pick up.

Little Fires Everywhere was a book I picked up in July, I think, at the Amazon Bookstore. It took me a while to get started just because I stopped to read the latest In Death novel, but then I read about 100 pages one weekend while getting a much needed pedicure. After that, I went through it bit by bit, finally getting the last 100 pages done Friday night and Saturday morning between my boyfriend’s house (he was watching some weird 80’s horror movie) and covering a shift for a coworker. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked it, but there were so many twists and turns that I didn’t anticipate and many times I had to stop to think over what just started.

While I didn’t get too much read this month, the books I read really left a mark on me and I will be keeping both on my bookshelves.

What’s next? I’ve started Whisper Network, I’ll be reading the next Stephanie Plum book when it comes out, and then Where The Crawdads Sing. I’ve got some extra time off this month and I hope to use a lot of it for reading!
