Finals Week Study Tips
It’s that time of year again, college finals week! I have really late finals, not until halfway through May! But, nevertheless, I’ve been studying since the last weekend of April, and in my past semester of learning how to study for finals, I’ve picked up just a few tips for the fewest distractions and most productivity when it comes to studying!
Find Your Study Place
Mine is in the library. I like the little desk/cubicles that they have because I can spread out all my stuff, but I’m not in anyone’s way. One of my friends works at the tables in the science building, and sometimes we’ll all study together on couches in the student center. It all really depends on what kind of study atmosphere you need.

Have Enough Snacks
Don’t bring an entire platter of Chick-fil-A into the library (unless you’re going to share with me), but make sure you have enough snacks to supplement whatever amount of time you’re locking yourself away to study. My favorite study snacks are popcorn, M&Ms, fruit snacks, and beef jerky (which I don’t usually take to the library because the smell bothers some people).
Pick the Right Music
Some people study better with no music, some people need to blast screamo, some people like classical music. It’s all about what’s right for your studying. Don’t let yourself get too distracted by jamming out to every single song though.
Know Your Friends
This is something that I learned last finals week. My friends and I can get a lot done studying together, but we are also very distracting to each other. There are some subjects that I can study around them, but some that I need to be alone when studying. Just be aware of how distracting your friends are, and how distracting you are to them, and so on.
Make a List
Know what you have to study, be thorough, and follow through with what you planned to do. This is one of my downfalls, because I’ll decide I’m not going to be able to get everything on that list done, so I’ll rewrite it, and before I know it, an hour has gone by. Don’t do that. It’s a huge waste of time.
Check Your Schedule
Don’t miss an exam because you’re studying for another one! That’s the biggest mistake one of my friends made last semester, and the professor just barely let her take the exam. It’s not a situation I ever want anyone to be in.
Laura’s side note: take this seriously. My school changed the finals schedule in the middle of the semester without telling anyone it was a different schedule from semesters past.
GET SOME SLEEP
Seriously. It doesn’t matter where, just catch some zzz’s. Last semester, my best friend and I fell asleep studying on the couches in the student center and slept there for three hours. We woke up in a state of shock, went to our rooms, took showers, and still buy accutane from canada made it to our 9AM exams. I took an exam, packed for Christmas break, and drove home on three hours of sleep and three cups of coffee. While this probably wasn’t the best idea, I know I wouldn’t have been able to do it if I hadn’t slept at all the night before.
Believe in Yourself
YOU CAN DO THIS. Despite what you might be telling yourself that finals are a deep, dark hole that you may never return from…they aren’t. You really can do this, you just have to remind yourself of this!
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FINALS!! I believe in you, and remember: a number doesn’t define you!
