For the Love of Words: The Year End Recap
When I started 2019 I had some ambitious goals: five books published this year. Tomorrow I’ll publish #3, so that’s pretty good considering the last year I had published anything was in 2016.
When I first started the original draft of Airtime and Alibis in the spring of 2018, I thought it would be a fast story to tell. I figured I would use this set of short stories to encourage people to sign up for my newsletter. It’s December 18th and I haven’t even started that yet.
But that’s okay, 2020 will be the year I build that dang mailing list.
Emily and her story took much more time in my life this year, but that’s okay. There are two big reasons I can name for the delay in writing and I’m so happy to have the delays: my new position at work, which brought new friends, and my boyfriend. Since graduating from college and moving to Austin in 2016, I’ve spent a lot of time alone. I didn’t have many friends in town and I’m not one to go out a lot.
This was the year life gave me people I could really count on. I had ambitious writing goals thinking I wouldn’t get a balance in my life with writing an actually being a human and having friends and a relationship, but I did. So three books is a great compromise.
Originally I had wanted to get back to Cassie this past summer but it was October before I did. Since this will be a leftover project, I’m going to spend most of my 2020 getting back to Cassie. I never imagined it would take this long to get another Cassie book out.
2019 was a great year for writing and publishing and I’m super excited to keep the train going. Stay tuned for more in the new year about what to expect.
