If you were to ask me, DOUBLE PLAYED was probably If you were to ask me, DOUBLE PLAYED was probably the hardest book to write in the whole original Cassie series. After blowing up her world, how did I bring things back into order just enough for her to keep going? This book was my quintessential “problem child” book. When it came time to go back and rewrite the Cassie books, I knew this would be the hardest one to wrangle. It’s a story of picking up the pieces but also knocking down the dominos to set the rest of the series in motion. So, unsurprisingly, 10 years later, this part of Cassie’s story is still being a little stinker. So much so, last night I decided to can my draft and start over. But even problem child books deserve love, and DOUBLE PLAYED came out at such a wonderfully weird time in my life. My first real adult job, adjusting to life in Austin, the countdown to the 2016 election. Still young enough to feel incredibly ambitious, but still make a ton of mistakes.
