January Goals
Hello 2016! I hope y’all have had a wonderful start to your new year. Life really does go by fast, doesn’t it?
Last month was huge. And then it wasn’t. I finished classes, graduated, moved back home, and then started the daunting process of job searching.
That could be a whole separate post by itself, but I will say this: it’s hard. Most people I know have taken anywhere from four to seven months to find a job. I know that I’ve only been looking for a month, and that I still have a long way to go before I get there, but it’s scary stuff.
Enough on the job searching though, because that’s not the only thing in my life right now. Right now, I’m in the thick of it with Double Played and I’m hoping to actually finish that by Sunday. I only need 2/3rds of a book to do that, but now that my siblings are back in classes all day, it’ll be much quieter and I’m hoping to really be awesome this week.
This month I’ll start attending networking meetings, hoping to meet people, and eventually get a job. It’s weird because it hasn’t hit me that I’m done with school. Right now this feels like a normal semester break. Once my friends go back to campus, I’m sure that will change, but now my life is just this indefinite hole?
Hole isn’t the best word, but there are so many variables at play – any one could change today, and I don’t know what will happen. So for now, I’m focused on three things in life, and three things only.
- Job
- Book
- Blog
Pretty explanatory, yes?
Of course, I’m going to break down the goals more, and this year I’m going to try something a little new.
Job Search
-Apply to at least five different places a week
-Have three in person interviews
-update my resume after attending a networking meeting
-go to at least three networking meetings
The Book
-Have at least one 10,000 word day (currently scheduled for tomorrow)
-Finish this draft of Double Played by the 10th
-start working on edits before sending it to the editor
-Begin pre-writing TA3 (still no title)
Blog
-relaunch! I’m working on a big redesign to go along with a new year and a big change in my life. I’m finishing up the final bits, but I’m really excited for it.
-get ahead on content
-start planning the calendar for February & March
-connect with some new bloggers
-participate in some blogging twitter chats
Personal
-start drinking 100 ounces of water again
-use the Daily Gratitude box in my Day Designer
-Mental Health Mondays (a new series on the blog later this month)
January is such a great month for goals, if you do it right. This is the first month to make or break your goals for the year or resolutions. Start strong and you’ll be so much better off with the rest of the year.
What are your goals for January?
