This whole year has been a bit of a flop, but these are specific to writing and publishing books.

And knowing that typos will haunt me in my grave. 😅

Brainstorming with these cute transparent sticky notes.

Sharpies are the only thing that works well on them, which means this brainstorming session is brought to you by sharpie fumes? 😅😜

A thick stack of hardbacks, college football, and I'm on the lookout for the first cold front of the season. September is here and my main focus this month is reading.

If you were to ask me, DOUBLE PLAYED was probably the hardest book to write in the whole original Cassie series. After blowing up her world, how did I bring things back into order just enough for her to keep going? This book was my quintessential “problem child” book.

When it came time to go back and rewrite the Cassie books, I knew this would be the hardest one to wrangle. It’s a story of picking up the pieces but also knocking down the dominos to set the rest of the series in motion.

So, unsurprisingly, 10 years later, this part of Cassie’s story is still being a little stinker. So much so, last night I decided to can my draft and start over.

But even problem child books deserve love, and DOUBLE PLAYED came out at such a wonderfully weird time in my life. My first real adult job, adjusting to life in Austin, the countdown to the 2016 election. Still young enough to feel incredibly ambitious, but still make a ton of mistakes.

Happy ten years, DOUBLE PLAYED.

Sometimes you go down a deep, dark tunnel in the corridors of your own mind. Sometimes you come up for air, not knowing if it’ll last or if you’ll drown again.

But now, while I’m up for air, going to try and figure out this book from the end to beginning. Provided my pen doesn’t die.

Heard there's an eclipse today over in Europe. Not sure how Austin got so lucky to experience two in a year, but by far one of the coolest things I've ever experienced.

Can't wait to see everyone's pictures.

Here's to hoping that August moves in the same direction.
