Things I'm Grateful For
Way back when, Ashley from Hello Nature and I used to do this series, Things I’m Grateful For. Since today is Thanksgiving, it feels like the best day to do this again.
Given all that has happened in the past year, hell, just in the past three weeks, I feel the need to remind myself of all the things I’m grateful for. I think gratitude is something so many people forget about, but I think it’s a characteristic that makes the best of people. I try to be grateful for everything I have (almost to the point where it’s a crutch against depression), but today, there are a few things I’m truly grateful for now.
My parents. Lord bless those amazing people. The panicked phone calls leading up to the election, the stress of finding a job before I moved to Austin, letting me live at home for four months while I looked for the job, the visits home. I don’t always agree with my parents, but I’m so grateful to have them. After a rough year for my extended family, I’m even more grateful to have both of them.
My grandparents. They let me live with them for four months, and I can’t imagine that was something they anticipated at the beginning of the year.
My siblings. They may tease and say they don’t care, but I’m lucky they’re always there to put a smile on my face.
The six months I spent in politics. I have no intention of going back into politics (six months during this election season was enough for this girl), but I learned so much during my time.
The blog. I know this year has been a lot of hits and misses with this blog, but I’m still grateful to have it and to be able to share information with people every day.
My books. I’m in the middle of NaNoWriMo, so I’m constantly writing right now, but the blogging started because of my books. I can’t even fathom what my life would be like without my writing and my books.
My faith. When I moved, I looked around for a church and ended up exactly where I didn’t think I would: my parents’ old church. This year has been the year of “never will I ever” biting me in the butt, but if not for my faith, I wouldn’t have met some incredible people at my new church who are supporting me during the job search. If not for my faith, I wouldn’t know amazing people from my old church who keep in touch. When things get tough, I know I always have my faith and the Lord.
Wherever you are, I hope that you have a safe Thanksgiving and remember the things you’re grateful for this year.
